Wheat Harvest in Parana Nearing Disappointing End
Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
The 2024 wheat harvest in Parana is 90% complete according to data from the Department of Rural Economics (Deral). The state is expected to produce 2.35 million tons of wheat, which is down 36% compared to last year. Dry weather and a series of frosts resulted in the lower production. Additionally, a late frost in the southern part of the state impacted the quality of the wheat.
The domestic production will not be enough to meet the demand and the state will need to import 1.6 million tons of wheat from Rio Grande do Sul and/or Argentina. The wheat harvest in Rio Grande do Sul is just getting started and in Argentina, it will start in December.
