2024/25 Argentina Corn Estimate Unchanged at 47.0 Million Tons
Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
The 2024/25 Argentina corn estimate was left unchanged this week at 47.0 million tons with a lower bias going forward. Since the corn estimate has been lowered three weeks in a row, I decided to keep it unchanged this week and see how the weather plays out.
Rainfall last week favored western and northwestern Argentina with some weekend rain in southeast La Pampa and southwestern Buenos Aires. Most of the country remained dry last week. The forecast is calling for rain in south-central areas mid-week which should improve soil moisture. Dryness will continue to build across northern areas and temperatures will remain warm.
Corn is 98.7% planted, which represents an advance of 0.4% for the week. The early planted corn is currently filling grain and 25% of the late planted corn is pollinating. There have been some corn leafhoppers reported in northern Argentina with very few if any being reported in central Argentina, at least for the time being.
Corn in Argentina was rated 22% poor/very poor, 50% fair, and 28% good/excellent as of late last week. The good/excellent percentage is down 2% for the week. Soil moisture for the corn is rated 43% short/very short and 57% adequate/optimum. The adequate/optimum percentage is down 2% for the week. Below is the corn rating in Argentina for January 29, 2025 from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.
