2024/25 Argentina Corn Estimate Unchanged at 47.0 Million Tons

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Rainfall last week favored a band in central Argentina including northern Buenos Aires, southern Cordoba, southern Santa Fe, and southern Entre Rios. Outside the narrow band of rain, it remained mostly dry in southern and northern Argentina. Over the weekend there were some spotty showers across central and southern areas. The forecast for this week is calling for showers across central Argentina with much greater chance of rainfall across central and northern areas next week.

Corn in Argentina is 99.3% planted, which is up 0.6% for the week. The last area to plant has been northern Argentina where farmers have been waiting for additional soil moisture. The rain last week in central Argentina will help the early planted corn complete grain filling and the later planted corn that is starting to fill grain. A few fields have been harvested in east-central Entre Rios with good results.

The corn estimate was left unchanged this week at 47.0 million tons with a neutral to lower bias. Recent rainfall has been just enough to keep the estimate from declining more. If the rain forecasted for next week verifies, it could help to stabilize the later planted corn. If the rain disappoints, the corn estimate will probably move lower. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange left the corn estimate unchanged last week at 49.0 million tons.

Corn in Argentina was rated 26% poor/very poor, 49% fair, and 25% good/excellent as of late last week. The good/excellent percentage was down 3% from the prior week.
